Gresini Racing has confirmed that Alex Marquez will continue with the team for the 2025 MotoGP season. The team, which has a contract with Ducati to remain one of their satellite outfits through 2025, has extended their partnership with Marquez.
Marquez joined Gresini in 2023 after leaving Honda, where he debuted in the premier class in 2020. Originally part of factory team due to Jorge Lorenzo’s early retirement, the 2019 Moto2 champion later joined the LCR team. However, Marquez struggled with the RC213V’s competitive issues, prompting his switch to Gresini.
Marquez made a strong debut with Gresini at the 2023 Portuguese GP, finishing fifth. That season, he shared the garage with Italian rider Fabio Di Giannantonio, riding a year-old bike. Marquez’s first season with Gresini included two podium finishes and victories in Sprint races at Great Britain and Malaysia.
This year, Alex Marquez is racing alongside his brother, Marc Marquez, both on the Desmosedici GP23. Alex, who turned 28 earlier this year, has had a successful career since entering the world championship in 2012. He won the Moto3 championship in 2014 and the Moto2 championship in 2019, which led to his promotion to MotoGP with Honda. He achieved podiums at Le Mans and Aragon in his debut year.
With Alex Marquez’s renewal, Gresini has secured one of its riders for the next season, following the announcement that Marc Marquez will join the factory Ducati team in 2025.
The 2025 MotoGP grid is quickly taking shape. Ducati recently announced that Marc Marquez will join their factory squad, with Jorge Martin moving to Aprilia alongside Marco Bezzecchi. Maverick Vinales will leave Aprilia for Tech3 KTM, joining Enea Bastianini. KTM has already confirmed Pedro Acosta’s promotion to their factory team alongside Brad Binder.
Double world champion Francesco Bagnaia signed a new deal with Ducati before the start of the season, and Yamaha has secured Fabio Quartararo for two more seasons. Honda has Luca Marini and Johann Zarco under contract through 2025, and Joan Mir is expected to stay with HRC beyond this year.
