This win helped Afghanistan qualifies for semifinals for the first time in their history, eliminating Australia from the tournament.
Rashid Khan’s 4 wickets and crucial 10-ball 19, including three sixes, helped Afghanistan post a total of 115 for 5 in their 20 overs. Despite a slow and cautious start, Rahmanullah Gurbaz 43 runs remained the leading run-getter for Afghanistan with a 55-ball 43, though the openers struggled to replicate their performance against Australia. Bangladesh’s bowlers, Rishad Hosein (3/26), Taskin Ahmed (1/12), and Mustafizur Rahman (1/26), shared the spoils.
Chasing 116, and interrupted by multiple rain breaks, Bangladesh were bundled out for 105 runs in 17.5 overs. Rashid Khan’s 4 wickets, with figures of 4 for 26, was instrumental in dismantling Bangladesh’s middle order. He claimed the wickets of Soumya Sarkar, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, and Rishad Hossain. Naveen-ul-Haq 4 wickets provided excellent support, also taking four wickets, including the last two. Despite opener Litton Das unbeaten 54, Bangladesh fell short.
