Mohammad Nabi, Afghanistan’s most experienced cricketer, has achieved a significant milestone in the 2024 T20 World Cup, rising to the top of the ICC T20I all-rounder rankings. His outstanding performances, including a crucial two-wicket haul against New Zealand, propelled him to 231 points, surpassing Wanindu Hasaranga and Marcus Stoinis.

Afghanistan has emerged as a dominant force in Group C of the tournament, remaining unbeaten in their initial matches by stunning both Uganda and New Zealand. Led by captain Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s bowlers delivered a commanding performance, with Rashid and Fazal Farooqi claiming four wickets each in a resounding 84-run victory over New Zealand.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Afghanistan’s top run-scorer in the tournament, also saw a rise in his rankings, climbing eight places to a career-high 12th in the T20I batting rankings. Meanwhile, Rashid Khan advanced three spots to secure the third position among T20I bowlers, with Farooqi making a significant leap to become the fifth-best bowler in T20 cricket.
Reflecting on their achievements, Rashid Khan expressed confidence in leading Afghanistan into the Super 8 stage of the competition. Their comprehensive victory over New Zealand has bolstered their prospects, showcasing Afghanistan’s strength and determination in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
