Ducati is scrambling to finalize their 2025 factory MotoGP lineup following a dramatic turn of events. Jorge Martin, previously thought to be partnering Francesco Bagnaia, opted for Aprilia instead. This left Ducati with a vacant seat and their sights set on a bigger fish: .

Ducati initially hoped to have Marquez join their satellite Pramac team on a development bike. However, the legendary rider surprised them by rejecting the offer. This unexpected hurdle forced Ducati to make a major shift in strategy, prioritizing Marquez over Martin for the factory team.

With contract negotiations underway, Ducati Corse General Manager Gigi Dall’Igna emphasizes the complexity of finalizing the deal. “It’s not easy,” he admits, “We are working on this. We will give an announcement as soon as possible, but I cannot give a date for that.”

This news comes on the heels of Martin’s departure to Aprilia, a development Dall’Igna wasn’t aware of at the time of his interview.

Meanwhile, Enea Bastianini’s impressive performance at Mugello appears to have done little to sway Ducati’s decision. When asked if it would change their plans, Dall’Igna offered a blunt response: “Honestly speaking, I don’t think so.”

This situation highlights Ducati’s aggressive pursuit of Marquez. With a contract potentially imminent, the MotoGP landscape is set for a significant shakeup.
