Conor McGregor Engages in Contract Negotiations with UFC, Aims for Three Fights in 2024

Conor McGregor has initiated discussions with the UFC regarding a potential new contract as he gears up for his comeback at UFC 303 on June 29. The former two-division champion, eager to reignite his career after a hiatus following a leg injury suffered in 2021, is eyeing a busy schedule for the remainder of the year.

McGregor, who currently has two fights left on his existing contract, expressed his desire to compete more frequently, outlining his plans for three bouts in 2024. While acknowledging the unpredictability of life and potential obstacles like injuries, McGregor remains optimistic about his proposed schedule, targeting fights on June 29, September 5 (Mexican Independence Day), and a year-end event in December.

“We’re currently in the negotiation stage with the UFC. Let’s see what happens. Let’s see what takes place,” McGregor stated during a Duelbits live chat, hinting at ongoing discussions with the promotion regarding his future.

The September event referenced by McGregor is slated to be UFC 306, set to be held at the prestigious Sphere venue in Las Vegas. McGregor has expressed interest in headlining this card, possibly against long-time rival Nate Diaz, although White’s dismissal of the idea has left room for speculation about potential opponents.

Despite dampening initial talks of a Diaz trilogy, McGregor remains optimistic about securing high-profile matchups, emphasizing his eagerness to compete on significant dates and events within the UFC calendar.

“As the biggest draw in the history of the sport, McGregor probably won’t have to look too far to find any number of opponents willing to accept his challenge,” the article notes, highlighting McGregor’s stature within the MMA community.

With McGregor’s comeback bout against Michael Chandler approaching, the MMA world eagerly awaits developments regarding his contract negotiations and prospective matchups, setting the stage for an eventful year in the sport.
