An eventful set of races at Le Mans saw Aleix Espargaro facing a series of challenges, including serving a double long lap penalty for jumping the start in the Sprint race. Despite this setback, he managed to salvage fifth place. However, Aleix Espargaro encountered further hurdles during the grand prix, which impacted his final position.
One notable incident involved a close pass by Enea Bastianini, forcing Espargaro to take evasive action and straight-line the Turn 9 chicane. This maneuver allowed Fabio Quartararo to overtake him, leaving Espargaro in eighth position. Although Bastianini received a penalty for not backing off sufficiently during the encounter, Espargaro questioned why penalties are not consistently applied in situations where riders are forced into evasive maneuvers to avoid accidents.
Espargaro particularly highlighted an incident involving Franco Morbidelli, where he felt compelled to take evasive action to prevent a potential crash. Despite these challenges, Espargaro emphasized the importance of penalizing the action itself rather than solely focusing on the outcome. He expressed his confusion regarding the inconsistency in applying penalties based on the consequences of the incident.
Analyzing the lap times, Espargaro estimated that he lost around three seconds due to the incidents. Accounting for this time loss, his finishing position could have been significantly higher, possibly placing him around sixth position, directly behind his teammate Maverick Vinales.
Reflecting on his performance, Espargaro expressed disappointment with the lack of grip during the race, despite expecting better traction in the low temperatures. Despite these challenges, Espargaro remains determined to overcome such obstacles in future races.
