Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney found manager Erik ten Hag’s recent comments about the squad’s attitude to be insulting.
Following United’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal, Erik ten Hag emphasized the importance of the right attitude. Particularly after their lackluster performance in the previous game against Crystal Palace. He highlighted the team’s competitiveness despite missing key players.
However, Wayne Rooney, United’s record scorer, viewed Erik ten Hag’s remarks as a significant slight towards the players. He expressed his disapproval, stating that such comments from the manager would prompt him to take action if he were still playing.
Wayne Rooney suggested that some players may be merely going through the motions until the end of the season. Sympathizing with Erik ten Hag’s position but emphasizing the manager’s responsibility to ensure the players are motivated.
Meanwhile, former United captain Roy Keane acknowledged the club’s genuine problems, including injuries in the backline. Despite the challenges, Keane hoped Erik ten Hag would be given more time to address the issues and steer the team in the right direction.
