Inter Miami’s rising star Benjamin Cremaschi has made the decision to represent the United States internationally, turning down the opportunity to play alongside Lionel Messi for Argentina.
Born in Miami, the 19-year-old midfielder has dual eligibility for both the United States and Argentina. Despite making his senior debut for the US national team under Gregg Berhalter, Cremaschi had kept his options open.
However, after discussions with former Liverpool and Barcelona player Javier Mascherano, who coaches Argentina’s under-23s team, Cremaschi has opted to commit to the country of his birth.
Cremaschi revealed that Mascherano had been honest and supportive in their conversation, expressing his desire for the young talent to pursue what’s best for him.
Grateful for Mascherano’s guidance, Cremaschi acknowledged the clarity provided and indicated his leaning towards representing the United States.

His decision is likely to please United States under-23s coach Marko Mitrovic, who has already called up Cremaschi multiple times in recent months.
The midfielder expressed his hope of being selected to represent the Stars and Stripes at the upcoming Olympics.
Having shown promise in the MLS with Inter Miami, Cremaschi aims to continue his development on both the domestic and international stages.
Despite facing setbacks due to injury this season, he has returned to form, making impactful contributions to his team’s success.
In recent matches, Cremaschi has demonstrated his talent, scoring goals and helping Inter Miami secure victories in the MLS Eastern Conference. His decision to commit to the United States marks a significant step in his burgeoning career, as he looks to make his mark on the international scene.
