Arne Slot, the potential future manager of Liverpool, seems to have already captured the admiration of Reds fans by getting under the skin of his longtime adversary, Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho, known for his tenure at Chelsea and frequent clashes with Liverpool. Found himself on the receiving end of Slot’s ability to provoke. However, Slot’s tactics didn’t translate into victory on this occasion.
Ahead of a Europa League clash between Feyenoord and Roma last season, an Italian journalist asked Slot about his observations of Mourinho’s team. Slot’s response was candid but seemed to irk the Portuguese manager.
Slot remarked, “Their style of football achieves results, but I prefer to watch Manchester City and Napoli. I’m very honest on that.”
The match that ensued was filled with drama, requiring extra time to determine the winner. The tension between the teams was evident, with both sides seeing red cards and no handshake between the managers at the end.

Footage later emerged of a heated exchange in the stadium tunnel, with Mourinho expressing his frustration towards Slot. Despite Roma’s victory, Mourinho seemed rattled, urging Slot to pay more attention to his team.
In the post-match interview, Mourinho admitted feeling slighted by Slot’s comments but acknowledged his coaching prowess. “We faced a quality opponent with an excellent coach, even if he disrespected us long enough,” Mourinho remarked.
Slot, on the other hand, expressed appreciation for Mourinho’s coaching achievements while also being perplexed by his reaction. “He apparently never heard that I also have a lot of respect for him as a trainer,” Slot noted. “He wins an incredible amount of trophies.”
The clash between Slot and Mourinho adds another layer of intrigue to the managerial dynamics, especially with Slot’s potential move to Liverpool.
