Yamaha has announced that Cal Crutchlow will participate in three MotoGP wildcard entries during the 2024 season. Aligning with his testing commitments.
Crutchlow’s wildcard appearances are scheduled for the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. And the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano.
Under the revised concession rules for 2024, Yamaha is eligible to field up to six wildcard entries throughout the season. But it remains uncertain if Crutchlow will be utilized for additional races beyond the San Marino GP.
In line with the concession system, other manufacturers like Honda, KTM, and Aprilia are also permitted to field six wildcard entries, whereas Ducati is not allowed any.
KTM has already outlined plans for two wildcard entries in 2024, with Dani Pedrosa participating in the Spanish GP and Pol Espargaro slated to race at Mugello.
Both Aprilia and Honda are deploying wildcard entries at the ongoing Jerez round, with Lorenzo Savadori representing. Aprilia and Stefan Bradl racing for Honda Racing Corporation (HRC).
Despite a challenging start to the 2024 season, Yamaha is determined to improve its performance and is set to test a new M1 prototype at Jerez following the race.
Crutchlow, who previously raced with Yamaha in World Superbikes before transitioning to. MotoGP with the Tech3 satellite squad in 2011, brings a wealth of experience to the team. He achieved notable success with Yamaha, securing six podium finishes between 2011 and 2013.
Following stints with Ducati and LCR Honda, where he clinched three Grand Prix victories. Crutchlow retired from full-time racing at the end of 2020. Since then, he has assumed a test rider role with Yamaha and has made sporadic wildcard appearances. Demonstrating his continued commitment to the sport.
Crutchlow’s wildcard entries in 2024 present an opportunity for him to showcase his skills once again on the competitive MotoGP stage, adding excitement and intrigue to the upcoming races.
