Gareth Bale has embarked on a new chapter in his post-football career by joining Steph Curry’s ‘Underrated Golf’ as an ambassador for its inaugural European Tour.
Having retired from football after captaining Wales at the 2022 World Cup, the former Real Madrid star. Known for his passion for golf, has embraced this opportunity to further his involvement in the sport.
Bale’s interest in golf was well-known during his playing days, and he famously celebrated Wales’s qualification for the 2020 European Championship with a flag bearing the slogan “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order.” Despite some controversy surrounding his golfing pursuits while at Real Madrid, Bale has continued to engage with the sport.
Now, he has joined forces with NBA superstar Steph Curry’s Underrated Golf venture. Following a recent encounter where Curry presented him with a signed jersey during a Golden State Warriors game. Bale teased the move on Instagram, expressing excitement for what’s to come.
Underrated Golf, which has previously hosted tournaments for junior golfers in the United States, is expanding into Europe. Bale’s role as an ambassador involves recruiting athletes to participate in their events while providing guidance and support.
Bale’s advocacy for junior golfers is well-aligned with his previous work with Wales Golf, hosting events such as the Gareth Bale Festival of Sport and Golf Championship. He sees his involvement with Underrated Golf as an opportunity to combine his passion for the sport with his dedication to creating diverse sports opportunities for youth in Wales.
The inaugural European Tour event, set to take place at Walton Heath Golf Course in May. Will feature 96 players aged 12 to 18 from across the continent. Bale is eager to witness the young athletes showcase their skills during the tournament. Which will offer two trophies and serve as a pathway to the Curry Cup Tour Championship in September.
