In the 18th match of the IPL 2024 season, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) won the toss and elected to field first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. With both teams looking to bounce back from their previous losses, the stage was set for an exciting encounter. SRH’s decision to field first on a slow track raised eyebrows, especially as they included only three overseas players in their starting XI.
The match began with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) losing an early wicket as Rachin Ravindra fell to Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the third over. However, CSK’s batsmen gradually found their rhythm, with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ajinkya Rahane stabilizing the innings. The strategic timeout saw CSK at 80/2 in 9 overs, with Shivam Dube and Rahane looking to accelerate the scoring rate.
Shivam Dube’s aggressive batting propelled CSK past the 100-run mark in the 12th over, with the left-hander smashing consecutive sixes off T Natarajan. The strategic timeout at 13 overs saw CSK at 115/2, with Dube and Rahane building a strong partnership. Despite SRH’s efforts to contain the run flow, CSK reached 150 runs in the 18th over.
However, SRH struck back in the final overs, dismissing Dube and Rahane to restrict CSK to 165/5 at the end of their innings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan bowled tightly in the death overs, ensuring that CSK fell short of a formidable total. With a below-par score on the board, SRH would now look to chase down the target and secure victory in front of their home crowd.
