After Liberty Media’s acquisition of an 86% stake in Dorna Sports and MotoGP for €4.2 billion, discussions have emerged about the possibility of joint race weekends for Formula 1 and MotoGP.
In an exclusive interview with Dorna CEO Ezpeleta, he acknowledged that while joint events are not currently on the agenda, there is no ruling out joint events for the future.
Ezpeleta stated, “It’s not in the immediate plans, but it’s not something we are ruling out for the medium-term future. However, it presents challenges due to the distinct fan bases and logistical issues.”
He highlighted concerns regarding ticket sales, sponsorship conflicts, and logistical complexities associated with integrating both series into a single event weekend.

Regarding the future of World Superbikes under Liberty’s ownership, Ezpeleta mentioned that there are currently no plans for shared events between MotoGP and World Superbikes.
He emphasized the need to assess the potential benefits of such joint events, noting that while it could increase exposure for World Superbikes, it may have a limited impact on MotoGP.
Ezpeleta concluded that hosting both MotoGP and World Superbikes together may not be financially viable at present, given the overlap in fan attendance and the associated costs.
