Manchester City are on the verge of bolstering their academy by acquiring American wonderkid Cavan Sullivan, rebuffing competition from European powerhouses such as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Sullivan, who has represented the United States at youth level, is in advanced negotiations for a move to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, as reported by the Athletic. Currently honing his skills in the Philadelphia Union youth setup, the 14-year-old prodigy is yet to formalize a professional contract with the club.
Despite interest from other clubs, it seems Sullivan’s future lies in England with Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning side. The anticipated deal involves loaning Sullivan to Lommel SK, a fellow club within the City Football Group, in Belgium once he turns 16. However, due to not holding an EU passport, Sullivan would be ineligible to play for City until he reaches the age of 18.
Regarded as one of the most promising talents in global football, Sullivan’s potential has attracted attention from major clubs such as City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Borussia Dortmund.
Sullivan’s performances have earned praise from Union first team coach Jim Curtin, particularly after his standout displays against elite clubs like Real Madrid and Arsenal at the Generation Adidas Cup last April. He also impressed at the 2023 CONCACAF U-15 Championships, where he played a pivotal role in securing the title for his country and was named Player of the Tournament.
Marlon LeBlanc, head coach of Union II, lauded Sullivan’s talent and grounded attitude amid the hype surrounding him, emphasizing his ability to remain focused and perform consistently. With Sullivan’s remarkable potential, City aims to fortify their academy and nurture his development for a bright future in football.
