In recent achievements, Japan’s cricket team reached the East Asia Cup finals earlier this year, showcasing promising performance. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to regulate state associations’ engagements with foreign teams, requiring all proposals to go through the BCCI. The decision, slated for finalization at the Apex Council meeting on March 18, aims to centralize authority and ensure proper facilitation of agreements.
A BCCI source stated that state units can pursue partnerships with foreign boards for cricket-related activities but must coordinate such agreements through the BCCI as the governing body.
Regional Collaborations and Global Cricketing Initiatives
In a related development, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has engaged in discussions with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, securing permission for a pre-T20 World Cup visit to India. Additionally, the BCCI has been instrumental in supporting Afghanistan’s cricketing endeavors, providing training facilities in Dehradun and Greater Noida.
Sri Lanka Cricket’s Collaboration with Japan Cricket
On a different front, Sri Lanka Cricket forged a strategic partnership with Japan Cricket through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Wednesday, March 13. Japan’s recent success in the East Asia Cup prompted this collaboration, with Sri Lanka committed to enhancing Japan Cricket by facilitating player, team, coach, and curator exchanges. This initiative aims to elevate Japan’s cricketing standards through collaborative efforts and knowledge-sharing.
