In a stunning showcase of fielding brilliance, Mumbai Indians Women’s player Sajeevan Sajana executed an extraordinary running catch to dismiss UP Warriorz’s Sophie Ecclestone in a thrilling clash during the WPL 2024 season.
Facing a target of 161 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, UP Warriorz faltered early in their innings, losing three wickets within the powerplay, including skipper Alyssa Healy. Despite the setback, Deepti Sharma fought back valiantly, but wickets continued to tumble at the other end.
Sophie Ecclestone, UP Warriorz’s last hope, fell victim to an exceptional fielding effort by Sajana. A delivery from Nat Sciver-Brunt saw Sophie lofting the ball towards wide long-on, where an alert Sajana sprinted and dived forward to complete a stunning catch just inches above the ground.
Maintaining her composure despite losing balance due to the momentum, Sajana’s catch left the crowd, teammates, and spectators awestruck. Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed both jubilation and astonishment at witnessing such a remarkable feat.
This exceptional catch by Sajana significantly contributed to Mumbai Indians Women’s comprehensive 42-run victory over UP Warriorz Women, further strengthening their position on the competitive points table in the WPL 2024 season.
