Sri Lanka Expresses Outrage Over Umpire’s Decision Reversal in Second T20I

In the second T20I between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, controversy erupted over the overturning of an on-field decision by third umpire Masudur Rahman. During Bangladesh’s chase, opener Soumya Sarkar faced an initial decision from on-field umpire Sharfuddoula, who ruled him out for an edge behind off Binura Fernando’s delivery. However, Soumya promptly reviewed the decision, revealing a clear spike on Ultra-edge as the ball passed the bat.

Even though there was clear evidence, umpire Rahman controversially decided that the spike came from a different sound, not the bat hitting the ball. This confused Sri Lanka, who strongly disagreed with the decision on the field and in their assistant coach Naveed Nawaz’s comments after the match. Sri Lanka thought the original decision made by the on-field umpire should have stayed unless there was definite proof to change it.

The disputed decision proved pivotal as Soumya, who was initially on 14, went on to contribute 26 runs before his eventual dismissal in the seventh over. Sri Lanka lamented the missed opportunity, emphasizing the importance of early breakthroughs, particularly on challenging tracks like the one in question.
