In a thrilling semi-final clash at Nagpur’s Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground, Vidarbha showcased resilience, overcoming Madhya Pradesh by 62 runs. Led by skipper Akshay Wadkar, Vidarbha displayed exceptional teamwork.
Despite a shaky start, Vidarbha posted 170 runs in the first innings, bolstered by Karun Nair’s contributions. In response, Madhya Pradesh, led by Himanshu Mantri’s century, managed 252 runs. Vidarbha’s bowlers, including Yash Thakur and Umesh Yadav, shone, restricting Madhya Pradesh.
In the second innings, Vidarbha’s batting lineup, led by Aman Mokhade, Yash Rathod, and skipper Akshay Wadkar, performed admirably. Rathod’s stellar 141 earned him the Player of the Match award. Vidarbha set a daunting target of 321 runs.
Madhya Pradesh fought valiantly, with Yash Dubey leading the charge. However, Vidarbha’s bowlers, spearheaded by Aditya Sarwate and Yash Thakur, maintained control, securing victory by dismissing madhya pardesh for 258 runs.
With this win, Vidarbha advances to the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 final, where they will face Mumbai. Mumbai, a dominant force in domestic cricket, triumphed over Tamil Nadu in the semis. Vidarbha, champions in 2018-19, aims to reclaim the title against Mumbai, renowned for their historic success in the tournament.
