Ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Lucknow Super Giants, led by KL Rahul, have appointed former West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran as their vice captain for IPL 2024. With KL Rahul sidelined due to injury, Pooran’s role gains significance, potentially seeing him leading the team in the initial matches if Rahul fails to recover in time.

KL Rahul’s absence from the squad, stemming from recurrent injuries, has prompted the need for a deputy captain, with Pooran stepping into the role. Despite initial expectations of Rahul’s return for the fifth Test, his trip to London for injury consultation indicates a prolonged recovery period.
In light of KL Rahul’s intermittent availability, Lucknow Super Giants’ decision to name Pooran as vice-captain ensures stability in leadership. Previously, Krunal Pandya took charge in Rahul’s absence during the last season, highlighting the team’s need for leadership continuity. Pooran’s appointment as vice-captain now strengthens the team’s strategy for handling potential setbacks and sustaining competitiveness in the upcoming IPL season.
