Securing a spot in India’s playing XI is a formidable challenge, and even after an impressive debut, one can’t rest easy – a reality highlighted in journey.
Given the absence of several primary wicketkeepers, Jurel seized his debut opportunity and made a significant contribution to India’s victory over England in the Test series.

However, Jurel’s position in the team remains uncertain, with the imminent return of Rishabh Pant. Pant, sidelined for nearly 13 months due to an unfortunate accident, is poised to make a comeback during IPL 2024.
Former Indian captain Anil Kumble compared the young wicketkeeper Jurel to the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
“Indeed, there’s Rishabh Pant. We anticipate his return, hopefully sooner rather than later for Rishabh. But otherwise, yes, Dhruv certainly possesses all the qualities to emulate MS Dhoni’s illustrious career.” Remarked Kumble in an interview with Jio Cinema.
“In his debut innings, he exhibited remarkable composure and later displayed his power-hitting prowess with some towering sixes while batting with the lower order. His performance behind the stumps was equally commendable,” added Kumble.
“He’s shown exceptional promise, and with time and experience, he’s only bound to improve. This being just his second Test, I’m confident that with more opportunities, he’ll continue to excel.”
Jurel is set to feature in the fifth Test in Dharamsala. However, with India’s next Test slated for September against Bangladesh. He may face competition from Rishabh Pant for the wicketkeeper’s role.
