Jack Leach, England’s left-arm spinner, will undergo surgery on his left knee to address lingering swelling that forced him to cut short his Test tour of India.

Leach sustained the injury during the first Test in Hyderabad, jarring his knee while diving near the boundary on day one. Despite managing to bowl 36 overs in the match, the swelling prevented him from bending his knee properly, leading to his exclusion from the second Test.
After accompanying the team to Abu Dhabi for a mid-series break, they decided that Leach would return home for surgery to fully recover. They have scheduled the surgery for Tuesday.
Reflecting on his injury, Leach expressed his frustration, noting that the knee problem persisted throughout the first Test. He stressed the importance of undergoing surgery to facilitate his return to cricket.
Leach’s absence significantly affects England’s spin attack, especially in the ongoing India series where he was expected to play a crucial role. The team will miss his leadership and experience in the dressing room.
This setback adds to a series of challenges in Leach’s career, including previous injuries and health issues such as Crohn’s disease. England will hope for his swift recovery as they prepare for their upcoming series against West Indies, with the first Test scheduled for July 10 at Lord’s.
