The final lap saw a multi-car wreck unfold behind William Byron, prompting NASCAR to immediately throw a caution, freezing the field and confirming Byron as the winner. The victory marked the 302nd Cup win for Hendrick Motorsports (HMS).

Byron’s triumph, the 11th of his career, follows his appearance in the Championship 4 last season, where he competed for the series title. The win also coincided with the 40th anniversary of HMS.

Speaking about his victory, Byron expressed his emotions, saying, “It sounds really damn good. Thanks to an awesome crowd for coming out. I have so many emotions. Obviously hate what happened on that backstretch (earlier). I just got pushed and got sideways. But so proud of this team 40th anniversary to the day on Monday. Just extremely blessed and thankful for all the opportunities, and we just want to keep it going. We have a lot to prove this year, and this is a good start, obviously.”

Byron credited his team’s strategy throughout the race for putting him in a position to secure the win. He mentioned laying back to save fuel and expressed gratitude for the power under the hood and support from partners.

Chastain, who attempted to cut inside for the lead but made contact with Austin Cindric, triggered the final caution. Byron’s Hendrick teammate, Alex Bowman, finished second, followed by Christopher Bell, Corey LaJoie, and Bubba Wallace in the top five.

The race featured multiple incidents, including a 23-car wreck with just eight laps remaining, leading to a red flag and a subsequent restart with four laps to go.

Byron’s victory adds another chapter to the rich history of the Daytona 500, establishing him as a champion in one of NASCAR’s most prestigious events.
