Agni Chopra, the talented son of renowned filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and film critic Anupama Chopra, has etched his name in cricket history with a remarkable performance in the Ranji Trophy 2024. Creating a unique record, Agni became the first player to achieve the extraordinary feat of scoring a century in each of his first four first-class matches.
Representing Mizoram in the Plate Group of the Ranji Trophy, the 25-year-old left-handed batsman showcased exceptional skill and consistency. Accumulating a total of 767 runs in four matches, Agni boasted an impressive average of 95.87 and a striking rate of 111.80. His outstanding innings included five centuries and one fifty, setting a new standard in Indian domestic cricket.
Anupama Chopra expressed her pride in her son’s accomplishment, sharing the news on her social media handle. Agni’s journey began with a stellar debut against Sikkim in Nadiad, where he scored 166 off 179 balls in the first innings and followed it up with 92 off 74 balls in the second innings. Despite his brilliant efforts, Sikkim secured a four-wicket win.
Continuing his stellar form, Agni notched up 164 runs off 150 balls against Nagaland in a match that ended in a draw. Subsequently, in the following fixture, his century spree persisted as he played a crucial role in Mizoram’s victory against Arunachal Pradesh. In response to Arunachal Pradesh’s first-innings total of 265, Agni contributed significantly by scoring 114 off 87 balls, further solidifying his impact on the team’s success.

Agni’s crowning achievement came in the Ranji Trophy match against Meghalaya, where he created history by scoring centuries in both innings. He contributed 105 runs off 90 balls in the first innings and followed it up with 101 runs off 71 balls in the second, earning him the well-deserved Player of the Match title.
Beyond his exceptional performance in first-class cricket, Agni has also made a mark in List A and T20 formats. In seven List A matches, he scored 174 runs at an average of 24.85, with a highest score of 50. In T20 cricket, he showcased his prowess with 234 runs in seven matches, boasting an average of 33.42 and a striking rate of 150.96.
While Agni basks in his cricketing glory, his father, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, received accolades for his movie ’12th Fail,’ winning the Best Film award at the prestigious Filmfare Awards 2024. Chopra was also honored as the Best Director for the same film, adding to the family’s list of achievements.
