Wanindu Hasaranga’s Seven-Star Performance Propels Sri Lanka to Victory Over Zimbabwe

Making a notable comeback to international cricket. Wanindu Hasaranga’s exceptional 7/19 led Sri Lanka to an 8-wicket win over Zimbabwe in Colombo.

Sri Lanka’s spin sensation, Wanindu Hasaranga, delivered an outstanding performance in his return to international cricket. Securing 7 wickets for 19 runs as Sri Lanka claimed an 8-wicket victory against Zimbabwe in the rain-affected third ODI in Colombo. Hasaranga, who entered the attack in the ninth over of the reduced 27-over match. Made an immediate impact by taking a wicket with the final ball of his first over. He continued to dominate, taking three more wickets in his next two overs.

Zimbabwe struggled against Hasaranga’s googly, and the spinner went on to claim three of the final four wickets, restricting the visitors to just 96 runs in 22.5 overs. Joylord Gumbie was the top scorer for Zimbabwe with 29 runs in 34 balls.

In the chase, Sri Lanka comfortably reached the target, with skipper Kusal Mendis playing a captain’s innings, scoring an unbeaten 66 runs off 51 balls, including nine fours and a six.

Hasaranga’s bowling figures of 7/19 are the second-best by a Sri Lankan bowler in men’s ODIs. Chaminda Vaas holds the record with figures of 8/19 against the same opposition 23 years ago. Glenn McGrath’s 7/15 remains the best figure in an ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

With Sri Lanka winning the three-match ODI series 2-0 (the first match couldn’t produce a result). The teams will now move on to a three-match T20I series starting on January 14 in Colombo.
